A light and packable summer sleeping bag filled with duck feathers will be your invaluable companion on all trips during the summer.

Duck feathers about the filling 700 Cuin in proportion 90/10 provides excellent loft and thus excellent packability while maintaining excellent thermal comfort up to 0°C.

The feathers used are RDS certified and properly cleaned, so there is no risk of the smell that witnesses associate with duck feathers.

We fill our jackets with the same feathers Hill, Breeze, Summit< /a> a Mont. In addition, it is equipped with Teflon treatment, increasing its performance in wet conditions and contributing to its durability.

Used materials

Duck down
RDS cerifield, hydrophobic Teflon™, 90/10

Duck down is one of the most effective natural insulators. The 90/10 blend contains 90% down and 10% small feathers, which help maintain loft and the shape of the filling.

The down is RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certified and treated with a hydrophobic Teflon™ finish that helps reduce moisture absorption and maintain insulating performance.

Nylon Ultralight DWR
Very light and sturdy nylon txtile with DWR waterresistant modification
Polyester Ultra-Lite
Soft and lightweight polyester fabric
Ripstop
is a fabric manufacturing technology designed to increase resistance to mechanical damage while maintaining weight

At regular intervals, thicker fibers forming a grid are woven transversely and longitudinally into the tropic material, thereby preventing further crack propagation if the fabric is torn.

YKK Zippers
High quality Japan zippers

The zippers of the well-known Japanese manufacturer, which is one of the best zipper manufacturer in the world. The zippers of this brand guarantee quality, long lifespan and reliability. Components of small dimensions, but of great importance, because their trouble-free functionality is often a condition of the function and usability of the whole product.

Detailed Description

Pinguin Lava 250

A lightweight down sleeping bag for trekking, bikepacking and travelling light, designed for trips where every gram and centimetre of pack space matters. Lava 250 combines low weight, excellent packability and thermal comfort for the warmer part of the year. It is available in three lengths for users up to 175, 185 and 195 cm tall and in Blue, Green and Red.

700 cuin down and trapezoidal chambers

Insulation is provided by 90/10 duck down with a fill power of 700 cuin. Depending on the selected sleeping bag length, it contains 230 g, 250 g or 270 g of down insulation.

Cuin indicates the fill power of down, meaning the volume a given amount of down can achieve when fully lofted. Higher fill power allows a very good balance between insulation, weight and packability. However, the cuin value alone does not determine how warm a sleeping bag is. Thermal performance also depends on the amount of down, chamber construction, shape and the overall design of the sleeping bag.

The down insulation is distributed in trapezoidal chambers. Internal baffles separate the individual sections of down, helping to keep the insulation evenly distributed and reducing migration and clumping. The chamber construction also helps limit areas with lower insulating performance.

The down meets the requirements of the RDS (Responsible Down Standard). The certification provides traceability of the down throughout the supply chain and sets requirements for animal welfare.

Temperature ratings

Lava 250 has the following temperature ratings:

  • Comfort: +5 °C
  • Limit: 0 °C
  • Extreme: -15 °C

When choosing a sleeping bag, the Comfort rating is the most useful value to consider. Limit indicates a lower temperature threshold for a less cold-sensitive sleeper. Extreme is an emergency rating and should not be used as a recommended temperature for normal sleeping.

Weight by length

  • 175 cm: 640 g, with 230 g of down
  • 185 cm: 690 g, with 250 g of down
  • 195 cm: 735 g, with 270 g of down

How to choose the right length

The 175 / 185 / 195 cm designation indicates the maximum recommended user height. For example, if you are 182 cm tall, choose the 185 cm version.

A slightly longer sleeping bag is not a problem. However, we do not recommend choosing a version shorter than your body height. If your body stretches the sleeping bag, the insulation can become compressed, particularly around the feet or hood, which may reduce thermal comfort.

The simple rule is: choose the nearest sleeping bag length that is equal to or greater than your body height.

The mummy shape, with a width of 82 cm at the shoulders and 55 cm at the footbox, reduces unnecessary internal space and helps the down insulation work efficiently.

Compact when packed

Lava 250 comes with a compression sack. The Ø 15 × 28 cm dimensions refer to the sleeping bag packed in the sack before the compression straps are fully tightened. Once compressed, the packed length can be reduced to approximately 25 cm, resulting in dimensions of Ø 15 × 25 cm.

Tip for maximum compression: First use your body weight to gradually compress the sleeping bag in the sack, for example by carefully pressing down with your knee. Then tighten the compression straps gradually, working around the sack in several steps. Do not tighten one strap fully at once. Tightening them evenly helps compress the sleeping bag more effectively.

The minimum packed size you can achieve may also depend on your strength and body weight, so a lighter person may not be able to compress the sleeping bag quite as much as a heavier user.

Lightweight materials for travelling light

The outer shell is made from Nylon Ultralight Ripstop DWR CCS. The ripstop structure helps prevent a small tear from spreading further, while the DWR water-repellent treatment reduces surface wetting.

Clima Control Shield (CCS) helps combine protection against wind and external moisture with the breathability needed for comfortable use.

The Polyester Ultra-Lite lining contributes to the low overall weight of the sleeping bag.

Zips and connecting two sleeping bags

Lava 250 uses high-quality YKK zips and is available with either a right-hand or left-hand zip.

A right-hand and left-hand version can be connected together, allowing two compatible sleeping bags to create a shared sleeping space.

Lava 250 or Lava 350?

If you are not sure which Pinguin down sleeping bag is right for you, the main difference is the amount of thermal reserve you need.

Lava 250 is the lightest and most compact of the three. With Comfort +5 °C and Limit 0 °C, it is ideal for summer trekking, bikepacking and travelling light.

Lava 350 contains more down insulation and provides a greater thermal reserve. It is a better choice for colder nights while still maintaining low weight and good packability.

In simple terms: Lava 250 saves the most weight and pack space, Lava 350 adds more thermal reserve.

How to care for a down sleeping bag

Use the compression sack primarily for transport. After your trip, remove the sleeping bag from the sack, allow it to dry thoroughly and do not store it compressed for long periods. This helps the down maintain its loft and insulating performance.
